One company, one site, the whole import

This site is run by My Car Import, from our own premises on Trent Lane in Castle Donington. The people who answer your quote are the same team that clears, tests and registers your car.

My Car Import in numbers

Those figures cover every country we import from. South Africa is one route of many, handled by the same people and the same site as the rest.

What we do ourselves

Most import firms pass a car between agents, garages and test centres. We keep it on one site. That means fewer handovers, fewer delays waiting on someone else, and one team who knows where your car is.

  1. Customs agents

Our own HMRC CDS customs agents declare the car and handle the duty and VAT.

  2. Unloading

Containers are unloaded at our own site, so the car is in our hands from the moment it leaves the port.

  3. Workshop

The speedo, the rear fog light and anything else the test needs are done by our own technicians.

  4. IVA lane

The first privately owned IVA testing centre for passenger vehicles in the UK, with tests every week.

  5. DVLA dealer account

Registration goes through our dealer-level account, usually in around 10 working days.

  6. Storage

Cars wait on our own site between stages, not in a third party compound.

  7. Delivery

Open or enclosed transport to your door when the car is ready.

Our own test lane changes the timeline

A car under ten years old needs an IVA test before it can be registered. Without a lane of your own, that usually means waiting for a slot elsewhere and transporting the car there and back.

We run IVA tests every week, here. If something needs attention, the workshop is on the same site, and the car can go straight back in.

With My Car Import's thirty-plus years of experience behind it, the team has seen most things a car can arrive with. A two-year-old Hilux and a 1980s W123 come through the same site, with the same care, by the route their age calls for.

Why a site just for South Africa

South African cars are different from most imports. They already drive on the left, so the work is lighter. But the export side has its own steps: police clearance, SARS, eNaTIS and a long trip to the port before the ship.

A general import site has to cover every country at once. This one covers one route, from collection anywhere in South Africa to shipping from Cape Town and on to UK plates, so the answers can be specific to you.

Behind it is the same company and the same site as mycarimport.co.uk. When you ask for a quote here, it goes to our sales team in Castle Donington.

Tell us about the car and we will price the whole import

Collection, shipping, customs, testing and registration, itemised in one quote. A person here writes it, and nothing is charged until you say go.
